AOOS scientists Phyllis Stabeno and Tom Weingartner reviewed drafts of the book. AOOS will also financially support distribution of the book to each library and school in Alaska, as well as assist with incorporating the book into curriculum development. The story centers around the adventures of Pete, a wooden puffin who accidentally slips off the side of a ship cruising to Alaska. Pete recounts his yearlong ride in Alaska's currents. |

The Alaska Ocean Observing System is building a network of observation platforms and forecast models. The goal of this network is to provide information products and tools to improve our understanding of Alaska’s ocean ecosystem and allow us to make better decisions about our use of the marine environment. AOOS is affiliated with the Integrated Ocean Observing System and the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.
