Rosa Meehan fits a satellite collar and takes samples from a polar bear west of Point Hope as part of a USFWS polar bear capture program in 2010.
AOOS staff welcomes Rosa Meehan to the team. Rosa is “on loan” from the US Fish and Wildlife Service for the next year. Rosa began her career with the US Fish and Wildlife Service reviewing oil and gas activities on the North Slope, worked in the Subsistence Program and then spent the last several years as the Program Chief in the Marine Mammals Management. She initially came to Alaska as a graduate student at UAF, studying Boreal Owls. While at the Fish and Wildlife Service, she was able to analyze the effect of oilfield development on shorebirds as part of a doctoral program. At AOOS, Rosa will be focusing on initiatives to better integrate biology into ocean observing.
